About Me

Who Am I?

Hi I'm TA Lucas Hi I'm Terry Lucas I'm currently working as a Lead Software Engineer and as a Pastor, and have for the past eight years. I see my greatest qualities as a communicator, problem solver, and someone who likes to help others. I excel at public speaking, writing, and enjoy working on hard problems and big challenges.

I once submitted a paper to the Annals of Mathematics at Princeton on the topic of Twin Primes. I'm still working on that paper, but working on seemingly impossible problems like this has given me a different perspective on life.

A couple of my accomplishments are making the dean's list throughout most of my college experience, and graduating as Department Scholar for the computer science department my year of graduation, all while working more than 30 hours a week and supporting a family of four.

I've always believed that if you help someone achieve their goals, your own goals will be achieved.

I'm also a confident communicator and have twenty five years experience of public speaking as a pastor, and seven years experience as a column writer for our company newsletter and the local newspaper. I'm also working on a novel.

My Skills

Here's my broad range of skills. I've learned over the years how to do many things, and would call myself a Jack-of-all-trades. I like learning new things, and have always considered myself a quick learner. I used to tell others, give me six months and I'll do the job as well as anybody else, and give me a year and I'll perform better.

Education

Education

I enrolled in university after already entering the workforce and starting a family. I'm thankful for my amazing wife for working with me on this accomplishment.

I have a Computer Science major, and a management minor, and graduated as Department Scholar in the fall of 2005 ceremonies.

I have been involved in ministry of some kind for almost 25 years. I've worked as a youth pastor , children's pastor, music pastor, associate pastor, and now as a lead pastor. All of these roles have been heart motivated and mostly on a volunteer basis. In my time in ministry I have:

  • Managed ministry assets.
  • Managed ministry volunteers.
  • Found ways to improve the lives of others.
  • Demonstrated the Love of God to others.

I believe in the principles found in the Financial Peace University courses developed by Dave Ramsey, and have facilitated the classes several times.

At first glance, this may seem trivial, but this accomplishment has helped guide my character and drive. My style of Taekwondo is Kukkiwon, which is what is practiced in the Olympics and around the world. I try and live my life by the five tenants of Taekwondo:

  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Self-control
  • Indomitable spirit

Work Experience

Lead Software Engineer Present

I currently work on the Warehouse Systems team as a support member and Lead Software Engineer. I have experience with the iSeries and DB2. My main role for the past 8 years has been SQL development with some database design, SSIS packages, C#, SSRS, and setup and support for our warehouse management systems.

Lead Pastor - Assembly of God 2011-Present

I've worked in ministry for many years, and held roles as youth, children's, and associate pastors, and now lead pastor. It's been my heart to help the church get to a position of health. I've walked with them through several building projects and I've seen both physical and spirit growth in the church. It's an awesome privilege to serve others in this capacity.

Warehouse Material Handler 2002-2005

I took this job because it allowed me to have a flexible schedule to finish my education. The Material Handler role was a fast-paced position where I had to pick cases of product for a customer.

Department Supervisor – Publishing Co 1990-2002

I worked as bindery supervisor for 4 years. I was responsible for set-up and production of all bindry jobs and placement of workers. I was not responsible for directly managing employees.

Highlighted Work

CodeCall - Creating an Executable Jar File

I wrote this simple article years ago about how to create an executable Jar file, and it has become a HOT item on their site with close to 42,000 views.

Tough Problems - Twin Prime Proof

I became fascinated with tough math problem during my university years, and one in particular locked my attention. It has been conjectured but never proven that there are infinitely many twin primes, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I spent two years on a solution and finally submitted a 13 page paper to the Annals of Mathematics at Princeton University. Shortly after, I noticed an error in my work, and the paper was ultimately rejected, but I still continue to look for a solution. Working on impossible problems can give you a different perspective on life.

Sci-fi Collaboration

I've recently began to revive some work on an old writing project that I led a few years ago called the Prime World Building Project. It was a group of writers from multiple states and countries around the world that wrote stories and worked toward developing a common world. This new project called Serpens Head, has similar goals--rally a group of writers around a fictional universe.

XCipher - Encryption

I created a Java application several years ago that encrypts files based on secret-key technology. It works by reading each byte and encoding it using a supplied password. I like creating solutions like this to tackle specific issues people face. This is just one example of the solutions I've made.
